Dear Cousin Poppy,
I think my Cinderella strategy is working. You must keep this strictly confidential, as I believe that all of the two legs who know me think I am much too adorable to be calculating. We must keep this ruse going. I am close to total success…am getting offers of new beds, new toys, new homes from around the world. Pretty soon, I will be able to retire…even before I start to bring home the bacon. Granny, Grandpaw and Auntie Joanna all believe that I am being mistreated…not like you. I don’t think anyone believes the horrible things you are saying are being done too you. Really, Poppy, you need to tone it down a bit. Who is going to believe that Auntie Joanna takes your food away? Anyway, Granny and Grandpaw will soon be sending me my own bed, which will come in perfectly, because from my calculations, Mummy will fit in it perfectly and Puppaw and I will finally have the bed to ourselves.
The truth is, I stretch out to get as big as I can when mummy and puppaw are nearby so they think that I need a new bed, but when I am pretending to be a doughnut, I fit in the bed just fine. I was so happy that you made the observation that there were no toys in my bed. I hope this gets me some care packages. The truth is they are all in a metal box that puppaw found in the closet (I ate the yummy basket they tried to use for this purpose.) The metal box works just fine. When I would like an extra yummy treat, I even put my toys BACK in the box. Mummy and Puppaw think this is just wonderful and I get extra love for it.
Granny thinks Puppaw is horrible and will have me out on the street with a tin can collecting pennies soon if I don’t replace the stupid plate. I haven’t touched the tea towel in days and still, I just can’t live it down. Someday, maybe they will forget.
In any event, I must run off because the forecast is calling for a lot of snow and mummy will be coming home early. I can’t wait!
Lots and lots of licks.

The Dog House
Dear Poppy,
I am so sorry about your torturous treatment. I cannot imagine such horrors. I too am quite confused about the significance of your treatment. Why rush you to eat? That only causes digestive problems. Now that I am no longer afraid that the other dogs at the horrible place from where I came can steal my food, I too have been known to take a little break between bites.
I have done some research for you: you must ask your grandpaw to call Miniature Poodle Rescue Co-ordinator - Mrs. Beth Dowle, Northants. Tel: 01933 358959 to get you out of this horrible situation. I would also call the newspapers and tell them that you are being tortured in a most inhumane fashion. Your mum will get into lots of trouble and you will get your throne back.
I also am in a bit of a bind. I made a terrible mistake last night. I reached up to grab the tea towel that I always grab when I urgently need attention. Unbeknownst to me, my mummy’s dinner plate was on the tea towel and it came crashing down. Oh, Poppy, it was not a pretty sight. I have never seen mummy so angry. She used a voice that I have never heard before and told me to “get away, get away, get away.” She was very sad and told Puppaw that she had been cooking for hours and was really looking forward to her special spinach and mushroom dish and I ruined it. Puppaw tried to comfort her and told her it was an accident, but she was still angry. Puppaw even shared his dinner with her, but I guess it wasn’t enough. She gave me the cold shoulder all night. I followed her everywhere to tell her how sorry I was, but she wouldn’t have anything to do with me. Puppaw made her give me a hug because I looked so sad, but I could tell she didn’t mean it.
I was so worried all night long. I slept all the way until 7:00 am and that seems to have made my mummy happy. She cuddled with me this morning, I think she has finally let it go.
It was a close call. I really thought I was going to have to go back to the horrible place where mummy and puppaw got me.
I guess we were both in the dog house. I am trying my best to stay out. You should too.

Woe is Me
Dear Mugsy
The Trainer came yesterday - it was not as you described.
He came, Mummy said he was good looking, i tried looking pathetic, being very good - but that didn't work, no welcome, no cuddles, he ignored me and talked to Mummy - and then said i was attention seeking - of course i am - i am a princess.
I decided to try to make myself very small - maybe they would forget me - and i hid under Mummy's desk - i was very good not a sound - the next thing i knew there was a list of rules being agreed - ITS A DISASTER -
no cuddly toys at the office - only a puppy kong (i am too little for a real one - you have to weigh more thank 5 kilos or 10 lbs - and i only weigh 6lbs) and a ball
No socks smelling of Mummy, only my bed and one blanket (no towels, no wrap of mummies that i stole and love etc)
Food to be eaten within 30 minutes of being served - or it is to be removed and fed to the birds - and i am to go hungry - breakfast has just been removed and now i am starving - and she (the awful Mummy) says nothing till tea time - thats hours away)
I have to be given a secure space (this is going to be a soft crate) or a sherpa bag - which at least is very expensive so is painful for mummy - GOOD - it is going to take two months to train me - AND I AM GOING TO MAKE MUMMY's LIFE TOUGH OVER THAT TIME - this is not going to be easy - ALTHOUGH LAST NIGHT I HAD TREATS IN IT AND IT WASN'T BAD - BUT DON'T LET THE TWO LEGS KNOW - i don't want to be too easy
no more sleeping on the bed - in a crate - but not until after the Geneva trip.
Agility Training in Spring (actually i like the sound of that!!!)
Last night i acted really depressed - really pathetic - you should have seen me - mummy was sad watching me - and i thought she might relent - but she stuck to it - and this morning - i woke up happy - i always do - and she gave lovely cuddles, but the morning treat went straight in the Sherpa bag and in I went to eat it - guess i am a treat tart as well - but i got my own back - i was very bad in the park - it was cold and i wanted to show Mummy how intelligent i was so i left by the open gate and crossed the road and went to the office - boy was she angry - she got me put me on the leash, took me back to the park and screamed at me - it was so embarrassing - guess i wont be trying that one again - oh and we are back to she has to go through doors first again - i have to remember my place (i keep telling her - i am the queen - but she doesn't listen)
Have to go now, more short lessons on - i have to behave when i am alone - i don't see why - but apparently i will learn - we will see
love and licks
from a sad and depressed - but still determined to win

Happy New Year
And what a happy new year it is Poppy. So much has happened since I last wrote. I should apologise for not writing sooner but it has been go go go. I am soooo tired!
Thank you so much for my Xmas presents, I am really enjoying them although I have to confess that I have decapitated the turkey that you gave me. My two-legs are a bit freaked out when they see the head in one place and the body in another. I keep telling them it is because they would not give me any of their turkey but they don't seem to be getting the message.
I met your mummy and our granny and grandpaw. It was so great. Granny gave me a Xmas collar just like yours. I quite liked it but my Pawpa thought I looked silly and put it up high. So not fair, it is jolly tasty.
The really big news is that Puppaw tells me I am no longer a bastard, although he does still call me a bitch. Mummy and Puppaw got married and I got to star in the photos. Their friend Kelly took photos of us at home all dressed up. They are very urban chic, with us walking in the middle of the road, and along the pavement. And lots of mummy and puppaw kissing. (Yuk, two-legs are so gross.)
I had my first vacation. I went to Aunt Mercedes and Uncle Matt's house and played and played with my other cousins Duncan and Atticus. It was great. I wanted to play with Caramel the hamster, but Atticus was afraid I would eat her. They have a yard and I left lots of gifts for the animals that live there. When mummy and puppaw came and got me I was very excited, but decided that Puppaw needed to be punished so I ignored him. He he.
Xmas and New Year was so cool as I had mummy and puppaw at home for 10 whole days. We went to the park, played at home and went to other peoples houses. I went for walks with Granny and Grandpaw. It was so great, you are so lucky that you get to visit with them all of the time. Now it is back to work and I have to stay home all day. I have so much energy and a need to chew lots of things. Puppaw's shoes. His kindle. Mummy's grater cover. The newspapers. The bath plug. The insides of all my toys. My blanket. Puppaw's plant (it was overgrowing anyway). Basically anything. Mummy and Puppaw think it is because I am acting out, but really I just like to taste things. I hear No No No a lot. But then I look sad and sorry and I get cuddles. Although I think Puppaw is getting a little irritated.
I have learned a new trick. When I am angry or when the two-legs are not paying enough attention, I pull the tea-towel onto the floor. If we are upstairs, then I pull the bath towels. If Mummy and Puppaw are eating then I pull their napkins from their laps. I just leave them on the floor (they are not fun to play with). I just need them to remember who should be the center of attention. I hear Mummy and Puppaw saying they will just ignore me, but I know they are paying attention. Ha!
The two-legs are worried that I am growing up a bit too fast. I was weighed yesterday and am now 55lbs. I am aiming for a hundred, but Puppaw has threatened to stop feeding me. He tells people at the park that he hopes I have some Chihuahua in me. I hope not - I hate those little yappy dogs.
And my best part of the holiday. The picture that you sent me of you. I have it by my bed so you are the first thing I see in the morning and after my naps. I met another black toy poodle - Gia - while walking and we played. I imagined I was playing with you.
Love and licks,
Mugsy

This Weekend
Dear Mugsy
I hope you had a good weekend - i did - well a good saturday and an improving sunday - and today a day already with some imponderables - i seem to have lots of those.
Saturday started off with an old fashioned love in with Mummy - i love those - although i did insist on her getting up at a reasonable hour - 5 am - she makes me get up at that time 5 days a week - i don't see why weekends should be different!!!! for breakfast and loo break and then we had snuggle time in bed!!!! before a good run in the park - i saw Molly and Betsy for a play and then we went to Granny's. I knew i was being set up - everyone was very nice - and before i knew it - it was BATH TIME - but not so bad - serious cuddles post bath and i do like being dried - all that hot air to gulp down and then burp up!!!!!
Granny insisted in more cuddles - you have to let her have as many cuddles as she wants - but always show independance -that way she always wants more!!!!!!!
Sunday - we went window shopping and a big play in the park - mummy fell over - it was so funny - all the four legs ran over to jump on her - me included and the two legs ran over to check she okay - of course she was - it was only a bump on the bum - if she had four legs - it would n't have happened - i found some great smelling stuff to roll in - and because i had my new red raincoat - with the legs on - i didn't even have to have a bath - it went in the washing machine - so no BAD DOG - great
then we were supposed to go to Aunty Caroles - butTwo legs have a thing about time keeping and time ran out so we stood around outside for ages and then gave up and went home to find they weren't coming anymore and i got treats for nothing - well for being good (not sure how but who cares!!!!!)
Then things went down hill - well i don't think they did - but Mummy did - i got lots of BAD DOG for doing my job
1. noises in the night - so i barked and growled continuously from 8.30 until 11.00 pm - even though mummy showed me nothing there - i could hear stuff - apparently we aren't supposed to disturb the neihgbours - in the end - i got shut in the room -
2. why is it ok to bark in the dog park with other dogs - but not at home and not when walking in the street?
3 Why is it ok to tell people you are walking down the road (3 barks are ok but no more) during daylight) but not at six am in the morning or after 8 pm (and how do we know what time is it and why do we care)
4. why do 2 legs get to go through the door first always - i want to go first sometimes - two legs always say its manners manners manners!!!!!
What did you get up to - hope you were Mugsy all weekend and not Lucifer at all
Lots of love
Poppy
